Comment “SNORKEL” down below for the link to this resource, which pairs a higher-level thinking math activity for problem solving AND an adorable summer craft 🤿

Students write and solve their own beach-themed word problem, showing their problem solving strategy 💭 If you want to add a bit of a more rigorous twist, give each student an answer to the problem (for example, “9 jellyfish”) 🪼 and they have to come up with a word problem to arrive at that specific answer.

After working hard at putting those writing & problem solving skills into practice, they get to create their own little snorkeler to go along with their word problem!

Bonus—this also makes for the cutest math bulletin board with summer coming up at the end of the school year! 😎🌊

At the school I used to teach at, one of my most favorite people there was the librarian 📚❤️

She is retiring this year, and it was extra special to get to wish her well at her retirement party this afternoon.

Many of the teachers at my old school now teach at different schools or have moved on to other roles in education…

And today felt like a reunion! There were so many of us who came back today to celebrate our favorite librarian (including almost our entire original 2nd grade team!) 🥰

Which says a lot about what a huge impact she had on all of us, and on the many students who were lucky enough to come through the doors of the truly magical library she created for them ❤️

If you’re a school librarian, know that you are loved and appreciated by many…thank you for all you do!

Looking for a fun, engaging way to review compound words? ☀️

One easy strategy is having students break apart compound words and explore how the meanings connect—and how they change!

Try grouping words that share a common base word, like “sun” (suncreen, sunshine, sunglasses, etc.), and have students compare what each one means.

This resource includes 30 different compound word families (so you don’t have to come up with them yourself!) and works great for centers, word sorts, and small group lessons 👍🏼

There’s also a sunshine-themed writing craft included that makes for the brightest summer bulletin board or window display!

Adding photo props makes picture-taking extra special on the last day of school, at a class party, or any end of the year celebrations 🎉

You could use these props for a class photo booth (create an actual booth, or any simple backdrop will do).

Or if you’re short on extra time, just have students hold up the props in any regular pictures you take 📸 It makes for super cute & festive keepsake photos to share with students’ families!
