This December writing craft is a book companion that pairs with Our Class is a Family: Holiday Edition, and makes for a cozy winter bulletin board! Students create a winter schoolhouse craft and can write about their favorite holiday traditions and/or ways for your class family to celebrate the holiday season together.

After the read aloud, this meaningful holiday writing activity is easy prep and can be adaptable for various grade levels.

Writing prompt ideas:

• What are your favorite holiday traditions at school and at home?
• How can our class family help others during the holidays?
• What are some special ways that our class family can enjoy celebrating the holiday season together?

Schoolhouse writing craft options:

1. Color & Cut: Print the full schoolhouse for students to color and cut out. Staple the schoolhouse on top of the student’s writing paper(s).
2. Build & Paste: Print each part of the schoolhouse on different colored papers for students to assemble, then back it onto construction paper with their writing pasted below.

Optional extra touches:

• Add a student photo behind the door (fold and glue the side edge).
• Decorate with mini holiday lights or “snow” on the rooftop for extra charm!
• Use the bulletin board letters that are included with this resource to make a cozy bulletin board display.
